If you have debt, you may have debt problems and it may just be time to consider debt counselling.
For many people, just the thought of debt counselling seems scary, embarrassing and painful. People often think debt counselling is ‘for other people’.
The reality is that we have more than a debt problem. We have a debt crisis (you can download the March 2018 Credit Bureau Monitor here) and there are times we cannot simply think our way out of debt or wish our way out of debt. There are times when we are in real trouble and we just need to be honest and face the facts.
As we were talking about the consumer debt crisis, a wise friend reminded me that,
‘There is always a solution’.
I had to think about that for a while. I’m not sure that I beleive that (or have believed that in the past). I don’t think I’m alone. I think most people with debt problems (secretly) believe they’re trapped and there’s no way out.
But, when it comes to debt problems (and most of our problems in life), the truth is, there is a solution.
Part of that solution may be to find help, because there is help available.
But, as with every problem in life, you have to first recognize that there is a problem and then you have to find the solution.
And that’s where debt counselling comes in.
This is a very important question. The answer, as simple as it may seem, is everyone who has debt needs debt counselling. If you are paying off debt you don’t have to wait until you have a problem to get counselling. You can get free debt counselling at any time. Debt counselling seems to suffer from an image problem and it is time that we recognize that we don’t have to be embarrassed or afraid to ask for debt counselling.
